SCHTUMM…. Friday 24th February 2017
The Queens Head, Box High Street, Box, Wiltshire, SN13 8NH
Greetings Schtummers! The Epstein – are our February Schtumm…. performers.
They have grown from being a traditional, roots Americana band and evolved to incorporate ambient electronica, Morricone style orchestral backings and sweeping, windswept, widescreen blues.
If the Eagles had been English – this is what they would have done. Beautiful compositions, fabulous playing, very English. This is a classy act.. acoustic guitar led, but lots of clever instrumentation. This is pure LUSH. (Boz)
The Epstein play in another league – in a vast, desert-like land of the soul – Rolling Stone
TEMPER CARTEL are an Oxford based four piece band formed in 2015. Their lo-fi demos soon attracted the attention of Mark Gardener (RIDE) who, along with Nick Moorbath (Oxford music mogul) and Tim Turan (renowned mastering engineer), is currently producing the band’s debut album.
First single ‘Bad Influence’ was released in summer 2016 and the band have been performing around the UK ever since, and have even been the topic of discussion on the Steve Lamacq show on BBC 6 Music: “Great riffs, great lyrics, great stage presence – like a Tarantino soundtrack”
Great indie rock. Vocals are brilliant with echoes of Lou Reed and Lloyd Cole. What Boz loves about this band is the discipline, the control and the majestically irreverent arrangements. They obviously know the rules because they break them so expertly with fabulous results. (Boz)
